Terracotta figurine of Aphrodite
From Myrina in Asia Minor (Misthos Collection). 2nd-1st c. BC.
(ΕΑΜ/NAM Α 4960)
The goddess wears a peplos that falls from her shoulder, a himation which she uplifts with her right hand and a stephane (wreath) on her head. Α child Eros, clad in himation, holds an alabastron, a perfume-oil container. The terracotta figure of the goddess is a variation of a popular statuary type.
