Marble statue of a young athlete
From Eleusis. Second half of 2nd c. BC.
(ΕΑΜ/ΝΑΜ Γ 254)
The anatomical details of the young athlete’s body are rendered harmoniously and vigorously. The statue is a copy or a free reworking of a Classical sculpture, probably a statue of the athlete Kyniskos, made by the famous sculptor Polykleitos around 440 BC.
