Marble statue
From Amorgos. Early Cycladic II period, 2800-2300 B.C.
(EΑΜ/ΝΑΜ Π 3978)
This unique life-size statue is modelled by its sculptor in a rather two-dimensional style, conforming to the typology of smaller marble Cycladic figurines of the same period. The naked female figure with her arms folded under the breasts, raised on the tips of her toes, bears close resemblance to smaller female figurines that accompanied the dead in the grave.
